One Coaching Philosophy. Three Ways to Train.
Every athlete has different goals, schedules, and coaching needs. San Diego Track Coach offers three levels of training designed to give middle distance runners the structure, guidance, and accountability they need to continue improving.
Whether you train remotely, alongside other competitive athletes, or directly with Coach Ken, every program is built around one goal: helping you become a stronger, faster, smarter, and more confident athlete.
Train Anywhere. Train With Purpose.
Self-motivated athletes who want professional training and structure but cannot regularly attend practices in San Diego.
Your training shouldn't be a collection of random workouts. Coach Ken develops your training around your event, current fitness, goals, racing schedule, and stage of development, then delivers it directly through your training app. Know what to do each day, why you're doing it, and how it fits into the bigger picture.

Train Together. Push Each Other. Get Better.
Athletes who want hands-on coaching, structured training, personalized development, and the competitive advantage of training alongside other motivated runners.
Group Performance Coaching combines individualized athlete development with one of the most powerful tools in running: a great training group. Athletes receive direct coaching from Coach Ken while training alongside runners who challenge one another, create accountability, and raise the standard at every practice. A coach who knows your goals, understands your training, and is personally invested in your progress.
Every Athlete Has a Plan
Regardless of which coaching option you choose, our approach follows the same athlete-development philosophy.
Assess
Understand the athlete's background, current fitness, personal records, strengths, weaknesses, goals, racing schedule, and training history.
Plan
Develop training with a clear purpose based on where the athlete is today and where they want to go.
Train
Build the speed, endurance, strength, mechanics, confidence, and mental toughness required for middle distance racing.
Review
Evaluate workouts, races, splits, progress, athlete feedback, and how the body is responding to training.
Adjust
Continue refining training as fitness improves, races approach, and the athlete develops.
No random workouts. No one-size-fits-all training. Every step has a purpose.
Develop the Complete Athlete
Middle distance success requires more than being fast or having endurance. Coach Ken's philosophy is built around developing:
Athletes are also encouraged to become students of the sport: understanding their training, learning how to race, listening to their bodies, communicating with their coach, and becoming increasingly responsible for their own development.
Communication Is Part of Training
Athletes should never feel pressure to hide pain, soreness, excessive fatigue, illness, or other concerns just to complete a workout. Athletes and parents are encouraged to communicate anything that could affect training so Coach Ken can make appropriate adjustments when necessary.
Knowing when to push and when to adjust is part of becoming a better athlete.
Prepare for the Next Level
For athletes interested in competing beyond high school, training can also focus on the performances, consistency, racing experience, and development necessary to become a stronger collegiate prospect. Coach Ken can help athletes better understand the recruiting process, communicate their athletic progress, establish realistic performance goals, and prepare themselves for opportunities at the next level.

What to Expect From Coaching With Coach Ken
A few practical answers so you can choose the right option before you reach out.
Which events do you coach?
Middle distance: the 400m, 800m, 1500m, mile, and 1600m, with distance work up to the 5k. Training is built around the specific demands of your race distances — not a generic distance plan.
How does the assessment work?
We start by reviewing your background, current personal records, training history, strengths, weaknesses, goals, and racing schedule. From there Coach Ken builds a plan with a clear purpose based on where you are today and where you want to go.
Where do practices happen?
In-person sessions are held at premier San Diego County tracks — UCSD Triton Track, Morley Field, and Mashin-Roth Memorial Stadium. App-Based athletes train anywhere and receive their plan through their training app.
How is the season planned?
Training is organized around your racing schedule and championship goals. Workouts progress from base building to race-specific speed, then sharpen as key meets approach — with adjustments after races and key workouts.
How do parents stay involved?
For minor athletes, a parent or guardian is part of the conversation from the start. Coach Ken communicates progress, listens to concerns about fatigue or soreness, and adjusts training when needed. Sensitive details never enter analytics.
How does pricing work?
App-Based Training is $100/month and Group Performance Coaching is $500/month, both with a direct next step. Elite 1-on-1 Coaching is a custom quote based on the athlete's needs and level of involvement — no surprise fees.
Not sure which fits? Ask first.
Send a quick inquiry about your athlete's age, event, and goals. Coach Ken will help you choose the right option before you pay anything.
